My Travel Art Kit

I just got back from my first trip with my travel art kit.  It was a test run before I start traveling internationally with it.  I discovered there were some things that I didn't really use (my chalk pastel pencils), some things I really missed using (Neocolor 2s), and something I'd like to try next time (more pens).

As for the journal, I took a passport size Midori Travelers Notebook (see below) with inserts I made myself.  I used 90 lb. watercolor paper for the art journaling insert.

The photo below shows my journaling kit in its cases.

The orange case is a Vera Bradley cosmetic bag.  Here's what's inside:

Left to Right: Midori Travelers Notebook passport size, Korean sticky back notepads, Windsor and Newton Cotman watercolor sketch half-pan set of 12.

The black case is a pencil case by Global.  Here's what's inside the front compartment:

Left to Right: Derwent Inktense pencils (all 12 on the left half), Derwent Graphitint pencils (first 6 pencils on the right half), 2 Pentalic watercolor pencils, 2 Cretacolor Aqua Monolith pencils, 1 Cretacolor Marino watercolor pencil, and Sakura white gelly roll pen.

Here's what's in the back compartment:

Left to Right: aqua LePen, pink LePen, periwinkle LePen, travel round brush, Papermate InkJoy, Windsor and Newton watercolor marker, Niji 12mm flat water brush (added after the trip), Sakura large water brush, Sakura Pigma brush tip pen in black (added after the trip), Sakura Pigma Micron in purple (added after the trip), Sakura small water brush, Sakura Pigma Micron in blue (added after the trip), black Zig Mangaka brush pen (added after the trip), Pentel medium Aquabrush, black LePen technical drawing pen (added after the trip).  In the baggie at the bottom is a pencil sharpener.

I'm sure this kit will evolve as I discover what works and what doesn't when traveling.  As for right now, so far so good.  If you'd like to see my travel art journal pages from my most recent vacation, click here.
