Gift/Project Idea

If you're like me, sometimes you buy picture frames without a clear idea of what you're going to use them for.  I've had one particular frame for years now.  It has a quote about friends on it, and what always made it seem so unique is that part of the glass is frosted and part of it is clear.  It seemed too special to use for just a regular photo.

Due to circumstances that I can't really discuss, I needed to make a gift for a coworker to comfort her during a difficult time.  I decided to use the frame.  I chose a piece of DCWV Butterfly Garden cardstock and cut it to the size of the inside of the frame.  The clear area of the glass where the picture is supposed to show through is 3.75" x 5.75".  I cut a piece of Strathmore 140 lb mixed media paper to 3.25" x 5" so that the cardstock would show around the painting.

I painted an angel using Copic markers, watercolors, colored pencils, acrylic paint, and a white gel pen.  I used gel medium to adhere the painting to the cardstock.  The photo below shows what it looked like before it was framed.

This is what it looks like in the frame:

My coworker loved it, and it didn't require a lot of materials.  It only takes a picture frame, a single sheet of 12" x 12" decorative cardstock, some kind of adhesive, a small piece of mixed media or watercolor paper, and whatever art supplies you have on hand.  I even had enough of the cardstock left over from that one sheet to make a matching card, which I forgot to take a picture of before I gave it to her.

If you decide to try a similar project, please leave a link to it in the comments below.

Blessings!

Wendy
